The dangers of a beach holiday in winter
Sunbathing, swimming, enjoying exotic dishes, admiring the lush nature is a very attractive prospect, especially when winter, frost and snow are at home. But so that such a vacation succeeds, does not end in troubles, spoiled moods, health problems, it will be worthwhile to know about the dangers that a tourist may face in hot countries.
For our body, any change in conditions is severe stress. It is especially difficult for him to adapt to a hot climate after a cold winter. Still need to add here new food, other water – this also needs to adapt.
If a person is relatively healthy, he has strong immunity, then acclimatization will be quite easy. For those who suffer from chronic diseases, especially neurological, cardiovascular, bronchial asthma, such a sharp change in climate can turn into a deterioration in well-being, exacerbations of chronic pathologies. But we must remember that you still have to return home, to the cold, cloudy sky, rain or snow. Only the body is accustomed to the hot summer – and again changes, and hence stress.
That is why it is advisable for people who are weakened and having chronic diseases in the winter to not take risks and choose other, more traditional places to relax.
Food and water
Coming to a foreign country, I always want to try local dishes. And here another danger lies in wait for the vacationer: unusual food and water can cause digestive tract disorders and even poisoning.
In hot climates, pathogens and parasites feel great. Therefore, the chance of swallowing any infection with food or water is quite high. This is especially true of street food, poorly washed fruits, water from the local water supply. By the way, water from holy sources can be dangerous in terms of infections and parasites. Although it is both spring and holy, but how many people use this source, and not all of them are healthy.
The main reason our compatriots go to hot countries in winter is bathing. It is unlikely that you will catch an infection while swimming in the sea – there are few pathogenic protozoa in the salty sea water. Although there is still a risk – when swallowing water.
A more likely hazard is jellyfish and sea urchins. Jellyfish are extremely poisonous, and a meeting with them can end tragically. True, at resorts, when such jellyfish appear, warnings are usually posted. Sea urchins are not so scary, but stepping on a thorny ball or grabbing it with your hand is not pleasant enough.
What really poses a threat in tropical countries is fresh water bodies: rivers, pools and even ordinary puddles. It is in them that larvae of helminth flukes that cause schistosomiasis can live. And you can get infected by simply walking through the pool with bare feet.
Sand on the beach
Yes, yes, ordinary beach sand can be fraught with danger. The fact is that sand flea often lives in the sand. The bites of males do not bring severe harm: itching, redness – and after a couple of days everything goes away. Much more serious are the bites of a female sand flea. It penetrates the tissues and sticks to the blood vessel. At the same time, she lays eggs in the wound. The bite site is very painful, inflamed, and an ulcer may even occur.
Malaria mosquitoes live in the tropics, and this danger must be remembered when traveling to hot countries. When planning a trip, find out if they are found in the place of your choice and at what time they are especially active. There are resorts where there are no malaria mosquitoes. In addition, in Egypt, their season lasts, for example, from June to October.
Be careful after the trip.
Even if you are not sick while traveling, you should not relax. After all, many diseases do not appear immediately. Therefore, if you feel unwell or have disturbing symptoms: fever, rash, upset stomach and other manifestations of distress, consult your doctor and be sure to tell him that you recently returned from a trip. This will allow him to suggest a probable diagnosis and prescribe the necessary examinations.
